+5 stars, -1. The gameplay concept is beautiful, and the actual gameplay itself is pretty good--the graphics are excellent, the music, though sparse, is well-done; the minigames are made and spaced with care and thought. It's long enough to make it fun, but short enough that it doesn't drag. The west flavor is thick enough to smother the Steampunk for those who don't want it there, but the steampunk is prevalent enough to enjoy for those who enjoy it.
But there are two things I find to be grave issues.
First, the quips. Either polish them, or get rid of them. They're irritating and feel off, apart from the fun Queen references.
Second, the difficulty has an unforgiving curve, forcing players like me to grind at the slots and fistfight to buy upgrades--which make the fights only marginally easier. It feels like the game was designed with a specific kind of mouse in mind, with other kinds--like a laptop mousepad--making it exponentially more difficult.
HOWEVER! It's a great game, I'm hooked, and I intend to keep playing until I beat it!
Well done, and I'm looking forward to Smokin Barrels 3! ;D
